Whilst I wait for the supplier to take delivery from meadowsweet .... I've been trying to source feed etc. (which is turning out to be harder than I thought online)

I see 5Kgs sacks and 20Kgs sacks - just "exactly" how long would a 5Kg bag last 3 birds? Its all made horribly more complex when the feeder & drinker are sized in liters !!!

A rough average is about 125g of feed/bird per day.  So about 53 days for 3 birds on a 20kg sack. Check the date label as the vitamin content deteriorates over time.

The best before dates don't seem to be very long on the 20kg bags which puts me off a bit as I am worried they won't get through it all before the vitamins start to deteriorate. Any idea how far past the date you can go before it really becomes a problem? :?

Lardman - whereabouts are you - I get 20kg bags for my 5 and they last about 5 / 6 weeks - mine do range during the day. If they are kept in they eat a bit more though.

I get mine from just outside Coventry - anywhere near  you? pm if  you want details.

ferget best before dates .. if the bags unopened it will be fine for 6 mths ...  ( thanks to my werk history at chapman frearsons animal feed makers grimsby ) .opened it wil be fine for 3 mths just close the top over or store in a bin.. oh and buy a sack of wheat / barley  as well this will stretch the layers out to no ill effect
