I am looking to site  my coop on a 3m x 3m raised, old vegetable bed which until  last week housed my daughters wendy house.  The bed has its ant problem plus slugs and snails, plus has grass which is the worse for wear with bits of wood trampled into it amongst other things.

I need to dig part of the run up to remove the bits of debris but wondered whether I ought to spray it to get rid of any insects etc that may have dwelt within the plstic wendy house, or under the synthetic grass laid over the soil (now removed)?

Am I correct in thinking that as long as red mite doesn't exist the chickens will deal with anything else naturally?

Would I have red mite if I have never kept chickens??

Any advice useful, Thanks

I am not an expert but I would say no. If the area hasn't been used by hens before then it is unlikely to be infected by anything dangerous to chooks. All you would be doing would be poisoning the little critters that chooks like to scratch for and eat. I hope I'm not wrong but I think all you need to do is clear the area of dangerous things like nails and glass, but then if your daughters wendy house was there I assume there's nothing dangerous anyway. Happy chooking  :)

I think the hens will enjoy eating all the bugs!
