Please could anyone advise on the best supports for clematis and jasmine. I planted both last year against the wall of the new extension and would like to get them sorted before I paint the wall.

Any suggestions ( cheapest and neatest ) would be gratefully received.

I like to run wire along the wall,in tiers, through eyes screwed into the brickwork

You can always add more wires as the plants grow upward

If you are painting the wall you will need access for repainting. Make a trellis out of tanalised roofing battens . Fix a lenght of batten at the bottom of the wall using cotton reels as spacers. Now fix the trellis to the batten with hinges and screws finally fixing the top of the trellis to the wall again using cotton reels as spacers. The cotton reels allow space for the climber to grow both sides of the trellis. When you want access to the wall remove the top fixings and the trellis will hinge down to the floor.

I use old wooden ladders.  You can pick them up in sales for  next to nothing, people dont want them these days.
