Sweet Pea sowing time
« on: January 11, 2010, 08:22 »
At last, something to be getting on with! Last years experiment with growing sweet peas on the plot along a beat up old piece of trellis, worked out extremely well. Starting life in the greenhouse and becoming accustomed to the outside world by way of a cold frame, paid off suprisingly well.
This year I came accross some very nice looking ones called 'Blue Ripple'. These I intend to place in the trough along the front of the shed and a nice display along the border fence.
I still have some seeds from last year that are called sweet pea mixed that are all the colours of the colour wheel. These were planted in late november in pots and put in the cold frame. They have about 3 pairs of leaves each at the moment and are hardening off nicely in these minus temperatures. Those ones will go to the wild garden section on the plot (encourage pollinating insects as well as provide a home for the more troublesome ones with the idea of keeping them off the veg).
