I've got some sweet peas which have germinated on the windowsill. They're now about 3inch in height. How tough are they can they go in the polytunnel for growing on or will the frost get em?

Sweet peas are pretty tough, but as with most very young plants they won't appreciate being evicted from a warm room straight out into a much colder environment - they'll be fine in a polytunnel but you may have to bring them in at night for a few days as a precaution if there are still quite hard frosts about.

"It has been said". . . that if you wait untill the side shoots show and then pinch out the main stem and any weak side shoots (Keeping the strongest one of course) you get a much stronger and robust plant.

Sorry, I'm muscling in on this one.
I too have some sweet pea seedlings growing (maybe a bit too) nicely on my windowsill.
They're looking rather tall and spindly, about 5 inches.
Do I need to put sticks in to help them from falling over?
Is there anything else I can do to stop them growing so fast?

pinch the tops off so that they branch from lower down, and then get them somewhere cooler if at all possible.
They are very hardy plants - but you will have to harden them off slowly before putting them out in the cold, as already advised.
