Is this a nutrient thing or a pruning thing
« on: August 12, 2014, 12:34 »
Hi

After a few glorious weeks of courgette soup, courgette cake, courgette frittata etc my courgette plants don't look so well. There are new leaves coming through but a lot of them look really poorly. Brown, rotting dry. I wasn't sure if this is just them dying after a few months of greatness or if they are crying out for some food. I normally feed them once a week with tomato food. I have an images attached. Any help or advice is greatly welcome. Thanks again.

They probably think they've done enough by now!

Take off the old leaves which are contributing nothing to the plant and will encourage mildew, and try a general purpose liquid feed which will contain more nitrogen and possibly other micronutrients which they may be lacking.

That may be enough to give them enough of a kick start to produce a few more fruits.
Sow your seeds, plant your plants. What's the difference? A couple of weeks or more when answering possible queries!

One of the best things about being an orang-utan is the fact that you don't lose your good looks as you get older

Brill thanks for the advice. And fingers crossed. One more thing when cutting off the dead leaves do I cut at the top of the stall near the leaf or the base of the stalk near the main plant stalk. Thanks again

Near the base - just pull them off, or cut them off if you prefer.
