I am quite keen to grow few varieties of white onions.Any suggestions on the varieties +how best to do it please ?Thanks

If you want some of a half decent size, the first thing to do is wait until next year! It's a bit late to think about starting them now.

I'm growing silver moon but they have been in the ground since feb/march i think, the birds seemed a bit more attracted to the white ones and pulled a few more up than they did the others but i just pop them back in again. As DD says though  you might be a bit late to start now but on the up side ill be able to tell you if silver moon are any good before next season
