I think two or three times a year is recommended
3 dogs, 8 chickens, 4 rabbits 2 guinea pigs, 10 quail, 2 fish and a demanding daughter who has gone to uni and left me with 29 animals to care for!!=)

Ok its time to flubenvet the chooks ,will they be allowed to roam the garden, or do i have to keep them in the run ???

Reason I ask is I have read on here they are only allowed flubenvet in the pellets and no treats!!

But at the mo when they roam the garden they are attacking the vegetable plot !!!

Will this affect the treatment???

Yes it will.  Give them their dose of flubenvet in one go each day on their favourite treat.

Will i still have to keep them in the run until they have completed the 7 day course doing it this way?

sorry aunt sally you slightly lost me here

you say give the flubenvet on their favorite treat ,I know i have to mix 6g to 2kg of pellets but how do i know how much to put on there treat, dont want them overdosing .

and if i give it on the treat and not on the pellets what is the difference in letting them free range ???

hope it dont sound too confusing

Don't know if this is right but when I do mine I don't let them free range. It's a pretty miserable week for them and they do complain a bit but it seems to work... so far so good.

If you mix with pellets, you need to keep them in a run so they eat the pellets and nothing else. It is he'll as mine do nothing but moan if in their run all the time.

If they love grapes (for example), you can put a daily dose in a grape, feed to chicken, sorted. They can still free-range this way.

I'm going to do it this way next time once I found out what treat they will gobble down in one mouthful.

Alice - Australorp
Bernadette - Barnevelder
Dora - Silver Grey Dorking
LilliBet - Cream Leg Bar

Amounts, I worked it out to be 2kg will feed my 3 hens for a week, so 6g/3 hens is 2g per hen a week.

Over 7 days this is about 0.3g, the only problem would be measuring it out. I could measure a gram and split three ways, hoping they are fairly even.

Any one get the same measurements?

the other way is to purchase layers pellets with the flubenvet already in it, my local stockist charges about £12 for a 20kg bag and i just feed them the pellets for the week so you know they have the right amounts, i tried the powder version but found that it was a lot of messing and mixing and then the powder was left at the bottom of the feeder (some mix it with oil to help it stick - again messy).
for the amount of chickens i keep (around 50) it worked out easier and around the same price as pots of the powder was £15.

the pelets are not always easy to find as not all feed places stock but most will post but obviously this bumps up the price.

Plus they would still have to be kept in a run and unable to free-range with the medicated pellets.

It's down to what ever suits you and your hens best really.

Good luck

Christine
