Blue aka MDPE pipe can be and is used perfectly successfully above ground in many agricultural applications. For those who don't know, I work for an agricultural merchant who sells rakes of this stuff and the fittings, so I'm dealing with it daily. MDPE may perish over time like any plastic will....

On the home front, our £24.00 total cost home-made polytunnel uses black pipe because it was the free one!

If either the blue or black is run above ground and is for use of potable water it must be insulated to keep the heat down or you run the risk of legionaires diesease. So the water board official told us at our offices.

Not really relevant when you are making hoops for netting though  ;)

Ah - nothing to do with the transport of water through them, then.

And this topic is still about using plastic pipe as hoops. Please start another topic if you wish to continue discussing legionnaires disease, water supply to cattle and the heat absorption properties of different coloured pipe.

I was only replying as 1 member mentioned using pipe for a temp cattle feed. Whilst out walking i have often seen people using water troughs to wash a sweaty brow. Now if you and the other 2 are not bothered by health and safety implications that's fine by me, but other people might be , so unless your comments are are on point please keep them to your goodself.
