where to get blue barrels
« on: January 26, 2011, 21:24 »
hi ive recently taken on a spanking new allotment which im so happy about.

ive been really lucky in that the council have cleared the whole thing and took away all the rubbish that was left from previous tenant , but they did take the one thing i wanted to keep

it was a big blue barrel thing was a good meter tall by about half meter which he has used for water storage

ive noticed alot of plots have these and wonder where i would get them as i dont seem to be able to find them online?

any help would be great

thanks

No idea but you may want to look on ebay.
My first water butt cost me a fiver and was literally 10 mins away, but then it was nicked   Then i managed to get three large sausage casing barrels from an ex butcher for £15.

Freecycle may also be a place to look to

Local swimming baths have chlorine powder delivered in them.

eBay? Don't go buying them with real money. Go on freecycle and ask for water butts that are no longer good enough looking for peoples' gardens, you'll fnd one or two I'm sure.

You've given me an idea ...

If any one is in the newcastle area let me know, I have the number of a guy who delivers them for £3 each. He owns a laundry and gets detergent in them - they come fully cleaned out.

Does it have to be the round blue barrels?

Why not try and look for those those ISO tanks, they look like they're on a metal pallet, in a cage and hold a 1000litres  :D

Food factories, printers and maybe truck garages might have them. They normaly get charged to have them taken away, so you may hit on getting one for a case of BEER   8)

2 years ago, I lost out to my BROTHER  :tongue2: at the farm where he works, in getting about 20 of them from where our dad works (wallpaper, plastic and vener factory).

My bro' went and filled them with CONCRETE so they could do the brake test on their cattle wagons for when they get their MOT!   :tongue2:  :tongue2:  :tongue2:  (It's more strict than a normal car MOT.)

Hi chopkins,
do you still know if that guy has access to barrels and would he be willing to deliver to low fell?  if so would you please pass on his details.  i've just joined the world of allotmenting so am in need of all sorts of bits and pieces.

many thanks!
