OH says he is going to make mine out of scaffold boards.
Might have to wait a few years though, he has a long list of home jobs to do.

How do you get hold of scaffolding boards without stealing them?  Sorry if these are all daft questions but I do wonder where you allotmenteers get all this stuff!

All advice is always gratefully appreciated by me and I try to give some if I know the answers.

Apparently scaffold firms sell them off but I've got no direct experience of this. Skips and pallets are a great source of free wood.
Self-sufficient in rasberries and bindweed. Slug pellets can be handy.

Perhaps you can take tips from that photo above and get hold of lots of glazed doors!

Farm near us sells all sorts of building stuff, stone etc and sells scaffold boards 13ft long without metal end strips for £7 a board.  :D

Here is my shed and the connecting 'poly house'. Only the rooves on each are bought, but that was because I wanted to be able to grow a few plants inside the shed as well.

And here is inside the shed (the floor is old pallets, the cupboards are from my kitchen, and the back window is a sheet of poly. The walls are anything I could find to keep the rain out :) :

And here is my other greenhouse (poly) made entirely from salvaged stuff, save for a few screws:

cheers,

Derek

What sort of a site are you on? Higgeldy-piggeldy is what allotments are all about.

it all seems very neat with patios around sheds and little ponds, all the plots are well kept, i only took mine on 3 weeks ago but they had weed killered it so it didn't get overgrown, though i did want to try to be organic, my plot is prob the worst as i haven't got down there as much as i would have liked went on sunday and couldn't do much as it was a lake, how do i improve drainage :?:

Hi Teen

Don`t know if you have a local wood yard near you; where they sell fencing panels trellises etc; it might be a good place to start.  They often have an area for unfit wood.  Stuff that may have split or been used in projects then discarded, old posts and so on.

I have got on friendly terms with the guys at my local site and quite often pop by for wood.  They know now that I have an allotment and sort me out stuff for use.  Yesterday I took a car load ( with the back seats folded down) to my patch.  It`s been great in the past for patching up the old shed I inherited and for shuttering for paths as well as other   jobs.

They wont take any money off me as they say they are only going to get rid of it.

Better make them up a box of produce and add a few beers when I have some stuff to give.
Everyday is the dawn of a new error...

I just bought a metal 6x4 shed from Argos. It was in the sale for 99 quid. Can't vouch for how good is is though as I have yet to construct it!
