Chickens and Weeds
« on: February 20, 2012, 13:23 »
I had a random thought over the weekend.
I have a part of the veg patch that is particularly infested with troublesome weeds. Would there be any harm with putting the chicken run on that patch and let the ladies scratch away and both kill off the weeds and add some fertiliser to the plot for me?
It would also give their normal bit of the garden a bit of a rest from their loving care; but don't want to harm them or the soil...

Thanks for any thoughts

Staffies are softer than you think.

There's a good mixture, I can definitely identify some:
Geranium
Herb Robert - at least that's what it looks like it will grow into
"Splurge" seems like the closest fit
Bind weed
Chickweed.
That's the worst offenders certainly

Yes I have been weeding the beds all last year, but now the snow has melted and what should have been a plot with just forage rye in now seems to have a myriad of other things growing in it too...
It's tempting to break out the weedkiller but I really promised myself I wouldn't.

Mine don't go near the geraniums but they love chickweed !!
