Posting chickens

If a breeder were in a different part of the country to me and offered to have my chickens delivered, how would they do this and is it right?

It is possible to have live stock couriered but it is important that they are conditioned for their journey particularly well hydrated,  packaged appropiately and they use specialist couriers who follow the guidelines issued by the RSPCA on the transportation of animals.  These limit the time in transit for the particular species and regulate the welfare of the animals in transit such as providing food and water, temperature and packing densities etc.

There have been people on this website who have had bad experiences of this procedure so it's upto you to enquire of the sender that the arrangements which are made are adequate for the welfare of the birds.  If it is done well, although it is stressful, it can be done successfully.

It can be done, both Omlet and Happychicks deliver livestock. in specilaist cagwes in their own vans.

I really wouldnt trust a package delivery company.
We use chemicals in this garden, just as god intended

Like Hillfooter and dominic said, there are some who will deliver, in specialist cages, but ordinary couriers won't do it as the legislation and paperwork puts them off.

Many animal transport companies we knew went down a few years back due to this new legislation.  We even had a problem finding a courier who deliver dead ones at a decent price!

I know a local lady who bought 3 hens from happy chicks.  delivery was £20, then she found out I  only live a few miles away!
