Cobaea Scandens
« on: October 29, 2009, 12:57 »
Hi Everyone, I grew the climber Corbaea Scandens (purple) this year and was thrilled with the result so I'm definitely going to do so next year; I want to save my own seed, the plants have stopped flowering now and there are a few 'plum' sized pods and having just squashed and peeled one apart, I now know the seeds are in there. The thing is the pods and seeds are still really green - I'm worried that if we get a heavy frost it may kill the whole thing off, so should I pick a couple of the pods and bring them in the dry and brown off or leave them on the plant? - hope that makes sense!! Any advice, as always will be much appreciated, thank you, Hey Jude.

why don't you hedge your bets and do some of each? Often if seeds aren't ripe they won't ripen any more once rmoved from the plant , but the frosts willl certainly see 'em off so, what have you got to lose???

If you are going to bring in some pods to dry, it can help the seeds ripen if they are still attached to a fair bit of stem. You can hang them up then too  :D
