fishing net
« on: June 09, 2010, 19:32 »
i love river dipping and pond dipping.  i find those heavy duty pond dipping nets way to expensive so i am going to get a fishing net instead.
what does everyone think of this net ?

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/New-42-landing-net-handle-carp-coarse-fishing-/280507205521?cmd=ViewItem&pt=UK_SportingGoods_FishingAcces_RL&hash=item414f884791#ht_1300wt_754

it only for going around the shallows of a river to see what small fish i can catch.
do you think this net will be up for the job ?

thanks

You may find the front of the net is soft and flexible to allow it to fold. I don't know if thats any use to you.
Also the net mesh should be fine enough, fishing netting is fairly fine these days compared to what it used to be.
Ask the seller he should be able to help, btw I've bought from this guy and I would recommend him as a seller
He who asks is a fool for five minutes, but he who does not ask remains a fool forever.

We do lots of Pond dipping sessions and i would think the holes are going to be too big for anything other that fish and newts.
Thanks
Kris

The 42" arms would be far to big for pond dipping as well i have 1 for fishing with and its like waving a blooming great wind sock around!

I've got a £35 one from alana ecology which has lasted 10years but with £15 I'd make one -£5 on enviromesh (enough to make 4 or 5 nets when the old one gets torn), £2 on broomhandle or £5 telescopic thing from B&Q and the rest on a bit of heavy duty wire...

I used to make my own with a coathanger, some old net curtain and a bamboo pole. Never bought one in my life. My lad used to use one of my homemade ones catch little crabs down on Southampton water when he stayed with us.
The reward of a thing well done is to have done it....

When I stayed with Aggy and Munty up in Scotland, Munty made a lovely net from an old bike wheel, some old debris netting and a bit of string!  He chucked it over the harbour wall, tied to a long piece of rope and it would have been wonderful if there had been any crabs or fish around!!! lol
