Barrel pond

Mum-in-law has a small wooden barrel pond that was her late husbands. She has no fish in it but does have a lily. A fungus, simular to bracket fungus, has started to grow around the top. What can she do to get rid of it? .thank you :D

This is a tough question because it could actually be a different fungi. Once something sets in, it's really difficult to get rid of. Here's a document with a lot of technical information. You might find your problem somewhere within:

All wood rots over time, and regardless of sentiment, I think your MIL should simply get rid of the barrel rather than try to spray chemicals to control the problem.

If she wants to keep the barrel, either empty it and dry it, then paint the inside with pond paint or put a butyl liner in it and refill.
