I have just aquired 10 black rock hens and a cockerel :D .The birds are about 18 months old :idea:  however most of the hens seem 2 have baldy- red raw crops and rear ends :cry:  :cry: . they look like oven ready chickens TBO :cry: IS this just normal moulting??? :?: .  i have treated all their legs 4 scaley mite,quarantined the cock :( do i need to treat the  inflammation, on their rear hind quarters    :?:   they have bright red combs and are still laying. thanx all.

They could just be moulting, or there could be a feather pecker.  My money is on moulting !

There is really no need to treat the skin as long as it is just red and not damaged or unhealthy looking.  You could spray it with teatree oil (from a pet store) as I do if you want, but it is really only for the human's peace of mind rather than the chooks comfort  :roll:
