Ham in slow cooker
« on: December 23, 2008, 11:15 »
Hi everyone, I am planning on cooking my ham in the slow cooker this year.  It just about fits in my 6.5L one if I squeeze it!  Any ideas how long it will take until it is ready?  I have never cooked any type of joint in there before.

Thanks.

I just read that only smallish whole joints should be cooked, if large they should be cut into smaller pieces

It says to cook it on "high" The one I'm looking at is for a piece of gammon 1.25 kg or 2.5 lb without a bone. It says to soak overnight in cold water and to bring to the boil in a pan for 10 mins approx and skim off any scum. Then slow cook in about 2 pint of water with your bayleaves, cloves etc.  It says for 6-7 hours

I normally cooked my shanks in the slow cooker, put it on over night, mine has a auto setting. Lovely smell to wake up to

Mine usually gets some parsley stalks and (if I've got it) a bit of celery along with the bayleaf and couple of peppercorns.
