FWIW John, most of my peppers (chili or sweet) have been started in white pots.  I'd like to say that's by clever design (but that would be untruthful).  Instead, the quart-size plastic pots the Mrs. buys yogurt and cottage cheese in are white or at least light-colored.  Cut some holes in those and those are my nursery pots.  My experience is peppers and other plants do very well in them.
