Potatoes shriveled.. pot or not?
« on: May 08, 2019, 13:54 »
Newbie gardener

Got some seed potatoes and "chitted " them
But they have shriveled up. I think the room they were in was too hot ?

Any point potting them or are they best suited to the dustbin ?

Thanks for any advice

They're alive and with good chits on them - get 'em planted!
Sow your seeds, plant your plants. What's the difference? A couple of weeks or more when answering possible queries!

One of the best things about being an orang-utan is the fact that you don't lose your good looks as you get older

It's happening because the new growth (chits) are using up the reserves in the seed potato so no worries.
I work very hard so don't expect me to think as well.

They have chitted well.
No need to worry about it feeling shrivelled and soft to the touch.
Get them planted, they will be fine.

The chits tend to grow on all sides of the seed potato, so I just chuck them in any old how - they'll sort themselves out whichever way you do it.

I would always try for chits up, but it does not matter, they will quickly find a way to break the soil.

Good chits on those jd1980. If you think they look shrivelled now, wait til you dig up your spuds, these original seed spuds will look like pieces of inner sole! All the best.
