I see i used on builing sit where I go. Sometimes they fill the 'gaps' with either stone/chippings, or soil and then seed it with grass.

If you're going to drive on it, I think you still may need a 'base' to set them onto to prevent them from sinking.

Chuck 'em down, link 'em together, fill 'em up.  Seems easy enough.  I presume it is to stop traffic forming paralell indentations in the gravel.

Cheers,    Tony.

I've seen them used on wide grass road verges where people park. Saves the grass being churned up. Widely used in Borehamwood when I used to pass through there, but I'm sure other councils use them.

This is absolutely correct if you're going to drive on them.

The church outside our office used these to expand their car parking. Initially they just took the top off the grass, linked up a load of these, filled them with soil and threw grass seeds across the top. However in winter when cars drive over them they sank (badly) despite being linked together.

The following summer they took them out dug down further and laid a loose (but compacted) stone base before putting them back, refilling them with soil and then re-seeding the grass.

They work perfectly now.

just to remind people, it is no longer allowed to surface your front garden without planning permission UNLESS it is with permeable surfaces like Dopey's...

Doesn't stop lots of people doing it but sooner or later the Councils will twig they can get money from the fines they can impose - or we start grassing up our neighbours because we realise it's adding to the chance of our houses flooding...

will get off me soapbox now
