strawberries growing again
« on: October 03, 2006, 08:22 »
Hi everyone,
I have sheared off my strawberry plants & the new foliage has grown back quickly . However they have started to flower & fruit again, should I remove the flowers & fruits? I think that if I leave them  they may weaken the plants for next year, is this correct?
                                                                        Adrian.
life is too short for work

I don't know - I didn't get around to sorting the strawberry bed and it's rewarded us with a flush of berries. I've gone for jam today.

The only one of my strawberry plants to flower again (in flower at the moment) is the dwarf bush looking one. All the rest throwing out runners like the alsatian in 'The Thing'.

I have removed the flowers and fruits from mine this weekend becuase i think it will weaken the plants but i could be wrong, but it's not going to harm them so i would remove them. :)

I have just taken over my allotment, the only edible plant in it are few strawberry plants all fruiting and flowering still :D .
A question, I will want to move them at some point when is the best time to do this?

i think i found a stawberry plan growing in my veg patch - strange things appear because all out garden/fodd.veg waste goes on our compost!  will take a photo later - i may be wrong it may just be a weed!
