Title: Eggs Please!
Post by: jazzyjay on September 04, 2011, 09:22
Hi to everyone.
I have 6 chickens. 2 Isa browns (I think), 2 Lavenders (I think) 2 light sussex.
I got them at the end of April 2011 and they started laying straight away, providing at the most 5 a day.
I am now only getting 1 - 2 a day.
Any advice would be great.

Many Thanks

Hello jazzyjay and welcome to the forum.  :)

At this time of year your chickens will be starting to moult, and will take a rest from laying until they have grown their new feathers and had a bit of R&R.  Have you noticed a lot of feathers lying around in their coop recently?  If so, that will be the beginning of the moult.

The best thing you can do now is to make sure your birds have the best possible food, and their housing is clean, dry and pest-free.  That way they will be able to put all their energy into growing new feathers and can start laying again as soon as possible.
