Daffs coming blind
« on: March 22, 2019, 10:32 »
 Hi everyone  ;)
Our local G/C gives away 10/12 daff' bulbs free every year to club members
when you spend £10. :) We've taken this offer up for a few years, the 1st 2
lots we put in med' sized tubs & they have flowered fine :D the next 2 lots went
into the garden & again flowered brill  :D  but this year the 2 tubs have both
come blind
Q. Any thoughts ? Could it be that we need to repot ?
We look forward to any replies. ;)

Keith/Sharon

Yes, they probably need fresh compost with a goodly amount of feed to give them a boost & splitting up. Even better would be to put them in the garden.

I was always led to believe that daff's planted too shallow would come up blind.

Cheers,  Tony.

If you give them a liquid feed followed by a little pelleted fertiliser while they are still in leaf (i.e. now) you might be able to get them to regain enough strength to flower next year without repotting, although topping up with fresh compost wouldn't do any harm either of course.

Make sure they're in a light enough position (some of the daffs in my north facing front garden tend to come up blind because they get the least of the available light.)
Sow your seeds, plant your plants. What's the difference? A couple of weeks or more when answering possible queries!

One of the best things about being an orang-utan is the fact that you don't lose your good looks as you get older

Hi. Many thanks for your replies  ;).  I understand about the depth thing but they are set quite deep & as I said they have flowered for 3/4 years ok, this is the 1st year coming blind. We will repot them & give them a good feed.  :)

We will repot them & give them a good feed.  :)

I suggest you do it the other way round - feed them now, and repot after they have died back.
That gives you a chance of getting them to flower next year. rather than the year after.
