WASHING MACHINE DRUM BRAZIER
« on: August 07, 2007, 20:13 »
Hi,

Thought I might as well pass this idea on- not sure if it is original or not but it works for me.

I wanted a brazier/firebasket for on the lottie as although my son now has the sense to understand that he must stay away from fire, I still don't like the idea of having an open bonfire.  We took an old washing machine drum, fashioned a very basic stand from the bottom of an old metal typist chair without the wheels, bolted it onto the bottom of the drum and hey presto! brazier.  It's not huge but it is stable and helps to stop embers and dodo flying off everywhere.

Nichy
"Is it supposed to look like that?"

Yes like it, my mate across the road made a chimnea thingy out of a SS beer keg and a length of metal pipe you can see it glowing some nights   :!:
He who asks is a fool for five minutes, but he who does not ask remains a fool forever.

i use an old oil /paint drum.

i didn't bother with air holes or anything - but it burns me weeds well

i put the lid almost on when it's nearly died down - keeps the ash nice and dry (if it should rain - perish the thought) smoulders lovely - and not too much smoke.

Yeah dig it in or just chuck it on the top helps improve the soil, adds potash too.
