Title: Sweet pepper variety

I have never grown sweet peppers (although I have grown chillies) because I don’t have a greenhouse. However, encouraged by the success of my plot neighbour this year, I think I might try growing some next year. I like red and yellow ones in particular. Do you lovely folks have any recommendations for tasty, prolific varieties which I can grow outside?

Don't know about varieties as such, but we've had success with peppers in the front garden.
We grew them in small pots on the windowsill, then.put them outside once the frosts had passed.
our gront garden is fully south facing so sunny and warm.
we're in the South East of England

This year we had peppers outside on the plot and they have been awesome. Unfortunately having bought them fron the site shop they were labelled simply as "Orange" and I haven't been able to track down a variety named 'orange' anywhere.

Next year I'm planning to grow 'California Wonder' outdoors, a red pepper that can be picked green.

If we have another summer like the one weve just had I suspect most bell varieties would do well outside but as is always the case in this game next year might be cooler.

I had a bumper crop outside this year as well. Long red Marconi and Long Ringo, both change colour apart from the last few I have harvested this week. Must of had at least 10 from each plant. I found that the ones I protected from on two sides, North and East, with still plastic done much better.

I can also vouch for Long Red Marconi, that did really well this year. Free pack of seeds from a magazine too  :nowink:

Another vote for Long Red Marconi, really productive and very sweet even when green.

We must all read the same magazine ;)

Thanks for asking this question.  My kids have been asking why we don't grow peppers they can eat when I've grown chillis for a few years.  Guess we will next year.
