onions V pidgeons

Hi could anyone tell me do pidgeons eat the tops off onions, we have netted everything except them, but went to the allotment last night and all the onions have been damaged, plus will they survive. Oh and forgot to net the sweet peas and they have been stripped, is that down to the pidgeons as well. going to change my name to Annie Oakley and get myself a gun.  Pidgeon breast roast, yummy

Pigeons will eat anything this year, so it seems to me. If it's just the tops of the onions, they'll be OK.
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?
