Never feed carrots.Once they have germinated leave them to their own devices.The tap root is in search of moisture.
Last year I grew a carrot in a drainpipe and it reached 47 3/4 inches.The drainpipe was 4 ft high and all I did was water the base of it. The root went searching for the moisture.
Incidentally I won the longest carrot red card at our local show
