Hi

Could anyone PLEASE advise re 'My Ladies'?    Have two ladies Both 6 years + ( Hybrids 1 Maran...Other Sussex).. Originally Both part of group of 6...on allotment:     Have for last Three years been 'backyard chucks' Maran cross  ( Best her 'raised' Guinea fowl eggs- 4 years ago)    is to date still laying ocassionally..But eggs  have lots of 'blood specks.'
Question/s

 A) Is there anything can do to deter laying?
 B) Are these eggs suitable foir consumtion?
C) Although hard to consider have my girls...reached  the time..for despatch??????......

What is/ Would be  best benefit to 'My lovely ladies

a) A vet can give a chicken an injection to deter laying but you will have to discuss with them the side effects.  You will need a local chicken-friendly vet.

b) I don't know for sure but I don't see any reason why you can't eat the eggs

c) I am not an expert but I think they have reached a good age.  It is your decision whether you dispatch them or let them live out their retirement.

I do so know your 'reply' makes such sense!!!!!...BUT  the decision aklthough mine....Is SO difficult to make!!!!!
'Cos at the end of the day...I'm living in hopes..That 'nature' will intervene; and ecuse me from such a difficult decision!
