Title: 2 eggs, 1 hen, in just over an hour!!
Post by: moomoos42 on August 08, 2011, 14:02
We have a chicken cam. At 11.30 we saw Aggie acting strange.
As i lost one of my Gals on Saturday we are keeping an extra close eye on them.
She squated down, put one wing out and laid an egg! Now Aggie has always been a chicken to lay were ever she may be but i went straight out as i know we have had a few soft shells.
The egg was fine except for a white rough coat on it. I collected the other two eggs from the box and went in.
At 12.15 i went out to clean them out andlet them have a run.
Aggie didn't want to come out, just sat hunched up.
I lifted her carefully out and put her on the bench while i cleaned the run.
She sat there for 10 minute then hopped down, put her tail down and laid another egg, so soft shelled that it broke open as it hit the floor!
All 3 then ate it (should i have stopped this?) then carried on as usual.
What is going on with my hens?!? They are just over a year old. ???

How strange - never come across this before. I think one of mine has laid 2 in a day before but one very early morning, one late eve so much further apart.
Eating an 'exposed' egg is normal - they're cleaning up so that other animals aren't attracted to their territory by eggy treats!
