The saddest comment is that it can be used as an antiflatulent!

That means poison doesn't it..;0)

Asafoetida is the stinkiest spice I've ever come across  :tongue2:

I use star anise a lot. It's supposed to be the active ingredient in 'Tamiflu' so I use it plenty in the winter ;)

Ooooh, I didn't know that!  I've got some, but never know what to do with it!  ;)
It gives a lovely floral flavour to winter soups and stews - I love it :) ;)

Just to report an update, Mrs Growster used some in a prawn curry yesterday, with some lemon grass, and we had to admit that the flavour was a vast improvement!

Still not entirely sure about it, but there's quite an enigmatic appeal to such an item...

It is supposed to be a little similar to garlic and onions in flavour, so its probably just as addictive as garlic  ;)

You can tell the difference if you leave it out, but I know what you mean about it being enigmatic.  It is hard to say exactly what it adds

Thanks for this News; I suppose what it really does, is act as some sort of 'culinary catalyst', which adds a lot, but nobody really understands quite what...

Nevertheless, Mrs Growster seems happy to use it again, so there's a result if ever there was one!

;0)

Growing salad leaves isn't rocket science.

Asafoetida baby...

Yo, Scribbler!

Like Morecambe and Previn, it appears to provide a certain flavour, but not necessarily in the right order..;0)
