egg yolk colour
« on: October 28, 2012, 11:04 »
can anyone tell me why the colour of my girls egg yolks has gone from being nice and custard yellow to a pale yellow? i have not changed thier pellets or treats and they still free range in the  garden they have been wormed (sept) on flubenvet and are healthy and running around as normal. The eggs still taste the same though. cheers andy

whilst they are free ranging they will eat different plants depending on what is in season at the time. So this may be the reason - manufacturers of layers feed often add marigold or relations to that plant to help give a darker yellow yolk.
Staffies are softer than you think.

Grass and other plants will not contain the same nutrients at this time of the year as they are winding down. :)
