I found this in the coop yesterday. It felt firm, so I tried to cut it in half, but it turned out to be an egg yolk. Anybody seen one before? Any significance?
The hen that I assume laid it (as it was in her usual nest box) is a speckledy who is just over a year old, and is a good layer of normal eggs.

I've had one that laid an egg with a blood covered yolk like that in it, but not seen just a yolk on its own. Mine was fine and has laid normal eggs ever since.
If they are all eating, drinking and busy making a row, I would say it was just a malfunction in the egg making process somewhere and hopefully a one off.
