Our lovely broody hen is at it again, but I'm wondering if it's a bit late in the year for her to hatch some more chicks. We're all set up with broody coops and plenty of space, and she's a proven good mother, but the cold weather is about to set in. I'd be grateful to hear your opinions.

It is a tricky one

If you have a broody the chicks should be ok if she doesn't have too many
If you have the room and the facilities to keep them warm through out winter is she rejects them for any reason then I can't see why not

At the end of the day it's up to you and the amount of work your prepared to put in if things don't work out


Saying that she may not sit full term either, gamble all round really

Thanks Sarah - good point about a smaller number of chicks, hadn't thought about that.
We can step in if needs be, it wouldn't be the first time we've had a chicken or 12 living in the kitchen!
