My brother has just sent me some and they have little buds so i need to plant pronto.Have had a look on the archives butwe get distracted too easily....

So does anyone know about soil preparation and planting distances or space needed for 10 tubers?

they're huge plants so give them room. I reckon I gave em about 2". They take a while to get to any size though so you could get a catch crop between them so as not to be wasting space til they grow

mine get nowt, (no i am not from yorkshire or scotland

) they have there own bed which I have put some plywood in around the border to stop them spreading.

Mine went in 18" apart and got some grow more then ignored, we've got tons of them

I'm half way through writing a page on my website about jerusalems but to answer the question, the better the soil the better the results. Half metre apart each way is adequate. Don't even think about crops in between.

Spend some time constructing supports because they get tall tall tall.

There is no problem with them spreading provided you dig them all up each year, clean the bed and replant.

very informative.

Yours are a lot taller than mine grew, mine got to about 5 1/2 foot and no flowers.

I'll dump a load of hen poo on them, rotted down of course

Worry not, just prescribed meself some new contact lenses and can see them. Must be works comp playing up again.

I can see all the pics, and mine grew as tall as that.

Up to 7lbs of tubers from one plant, and individual tubers up to 12oz. Used loads of well rotted horse poo in a raised bed.

Thanks for all the info.I have planted them in a triangular bed that had manure dug in last month.I will top dress on Saturday and think about supports..am eying up the pallets as we have loads and won`t need kindling wood for much longer :lol:Now I`ve seen the pictures I`m glad I chose the bed I did as they won`t shade anything there.
