Tomato help!
« on: May 13, 2011, 14:52 »

Hi all,

Being the typical unorganised mess that I am I have managed to confuse which tomato plants are which. Normally this wouldn't matter as I could just wait and see what happens, however the two types that I sowed were money maker and tumbling toms.

The main difference I can tell is one has a reddy/purply shade under the leaves, the others don't. I planted them in different types of pots (square and round) but can't remember which ones are which.

So, which ones are which? any ideas?

Thanks

Stephen

As far as I remember from years ago when I grew Moneymaker, (we're talking 40+ here), they don't have a reddish tint. The big giveaway will be the manner in whcih they grow, Moneymaker will go straight up - the others won't!

I think you'll also find that the tumbling toms have a more rounded edge to their leaves.
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

Are they actually Tumbling Tom or just a tumbling type tomato? We have both Gartenperle and 100s and 1000s tumbling type tomatoes growing and neither of them have red undersides to the leaves.

They are all going straight up at the moment! lol but thanks I will keep an eye out for that.

The packet said tumbling toms so I am assuming that is the actual variety but I am fairly new to all this.

At the moment the clues seem to be leading to your tumbling toms being the one with the red underside to the leaves, but DD's advice about leaf shape when the plants get a bit bigger is excellent.
