Spraying Tomatoes To Set Flowers
« on: May 14, 2009, 21:47 »
I have been advised to spray the flowers of tomato plants to "set" the fruit.  What exactly does this entail.  I am presuming mist spray with water (or maybe seaweed).

Does anyone else do this?  If so, how often?

I've never done it Jay, and never been disappointed with my tomatoes, even last year when I got a lot of blight, I just kept taking off all the diseased bits and more new fruits and foliage kept growing.

i spray with calcified seaweed (maxicrop) it works wonders.
do it early morning or late evening for best results.

This is all new to me as it is my first (proper) year growing tomatoes.   I have lots of green and quite a few flowers but no sign of any tomatoes yet.  Does spraying help with this then?

A fine spray of water will help pollinate the flowers. Another method is to regularly tap the canes. Maxicrop will also feed the plant.
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?
