Best new potatoes?
« on: April 06, 2013, 08:52 »
I've bowed down to pressure from my mum and dad to grow them some new potatoes, I don't really like potatoes so have never grown them before. Just wondered what ones give the best crop (blight allowing)....and erm how the heck do I grow them? I have bought a bag but there's no instructions  ::)

I usually grow Pentland Javelin.

I love em!

If it comes out easy, it was a valuable plant !

this is a very subjective question which will end up confusing more than when you started  :D

One year I grew 5 of around 10 different varieties, when ready I cooked up 3 of each and went down the street to people I knew doing a blind tasting.

The result was all but one preferred Pentland Javlin so I have grown them ever since and at the end of the day we like them and thats all that counts!

If JayG was awake, it would be 4-2.

Having said that I always grow PJ's as well. They're a good spud.
