Brown patches on bramley apples

Hi all ,I have a bramley apple on dwarf root stock 4 years old ,this year about a quarter of the fruit has a brown patch    which is soft, I did put a moth trap up.Can any one tell me what could be the cause and what i can do to prevent it next year,i have removed most of the damaged fruit .Cheers

No Aunt Sally, they are big and just the one patch on each apple .I will endeavour to get a picture if i can figure out how to put it on.Watch this space.Thanks

It does happen with Bramleys you get a large brown area almost as if it had been bruised ! Just cut it out the remainder is still useable hope this helps :)

Just one on each apple ?

Sounds like physical damage letting an infection in.

Even a hole left by an aphid/greenfly when the fruit was tiny is enough for brown rot to get a start.

Yes that is what it looks like Aunt Sally,it says caused by physical damage but how i can only guess. Hail stones is my best answer.Sorry I did try to put a photo on but my box of trix won't play.Thanks for all your replies.

I've got brown circles appeared on a few of my eating apples and I've been told that its sunburn. When I look at some of the other fruit, they have blemished skin but not damaged as much.
