Turn over the soil in their pen occasionally and install a nice dust bathing area.
Give them cabbages etc.
Sometimes mine are penned up in bad weather and I sow surplus vegetable seeds in trays and give them the whole tray to enjoy.

General Gardening / Re: Getting grown plug plants out of modules.

I tend to try and use the better quality ones and don't leave the seedlings in until the roots are pushing through the drain holes.
Made the mistake of using some cheep flimsy ones which were OK in the first year but became very brittle over time and basically had to destroy the cell trays to get the plants out.
Lesson learned  :D

Just realised the birds have been eating white slug pellets. So I have put some blue ones down, I hope they won’t mistake them for food.

I use them on everything I grow. Like Alan I'd say it's on par with Growmore but more smelly!

Cabbages etc love them. I use them on most things and get good results.
I don't spread them all around the plot but a little around each plant once the plants are well past seedling stage.
The results are comparable to grow more.

Grow Your Own / Re: Potato Failure..

My dad and grandad planted potatoes good Friday Easter Monday as it was labour intensive compared to planting out most things.
And due to them working full time they knew that this was probably the only opportunity they would get to devote the time required.
