Title: Green Poly Tunnel
Post by: crilly on December 31, 2013, 11:36
I have just added a green poly tunnel to my allotment and need to know if they are OK to grow toms, cucumbers and peppers in.

Was concerned about the light not getting through, or are they designed to allow the correct amount of light in.

I also have a green house on my plot but this is reserved for chilli’s this year.

Thanks

They are fine for toms, cucumbers and peppers - as long as you don't plant them out too early, while nights are still cold.

Make sure you've fixed it down well, as they do tend to blowaway  :(

Hello crilly, yes you grow almost anything in them i have one 20x10 and i have had excellent crops even sweetcorn 12 feet tall with no probs
have a look at my photos in the gallery,i have mine on top of 2 scaff boards high for the extra height hence big sweetcorn,to secure it down i have 8foot posts knocked in at every hoop and screwed them to it so it is rigid
you can put rails round too so you can screw diagonals to it,i also have 2 door frames at either zipped ends with auto vents in them,

By 'green' do you mean the cover isn't transparent?

Hi,its all green with 1cm clear squares ,the green  webbing is the strength it is like having shade netting over it but still grows things very well i do quite well  as long as you secure it down
