Prompted by a costing exercise I did on another thread...

http://www.chat.allotment-garden.org/viewtopic.php?p=351536#351536

I thought I'd see how much it would cost to buy the onion sets I got from our local independant nursery.

This year I've bought Hercules onion sets, (well the label sounded good), at £1.99 a kilo. The nursery obtains them direct from T & M.

Going to T & M direct they would cost £11.38 for 2 x 500g packets, plus £3.95 p & p = £15.33 total.

Where's this extra £13.34 go to!

Makes you think.

These are they..

Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

They certainly are expensive this way, but places like Wilko will have them far cheaper.

You've got one in Ashford, I see.

I grew onions from seed last year (Bedfordshire Champion) and had great results. Started them off in a seed tray then planted out on the plot. Only trouble i have is with drying and storing.
Life is a heap of manure. Growing one minute, stinking the next.
