Courgette question
« on: April 16, 2008, 00:18 »
Due to a misunderstanding, OH has put our courgettes out today, in pots.  I think it's far too early and want to bring them back in again tomorrow, it's quite cold tonight.  Would I be doing more harm than good?

Courgettes are very sensitive to the cold and shouldn't be out until the temps are quite warm, or the greenhouse is quite warm.

Agree with Trill, (have to!).

Even if there is no frost, they hate the cold. Having said that, looked at the extended forecast & after the next day or so, its predicited to get warmer up to the end of the month, so you may get away with it, exspecially if you can cover them up.

But beware, weather can change again & you can get frosts well into May.  One sniff of those & it's 'goobye courgettes'.

Decision is yours!
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

Well they had to stay out last night, it was about midnight when I was informed they were out, brought them in this morning, and we'll see how they got on, there was no frost last night, but it was cold.

dont worry to much if they dont survive, there is plenty of time to re-sow, Mine will be started at the end of the month, this is one plant I never start early, after three weeks of cropping you will be sick of them, as will your neighbours.

I haven't sowed mine yet.
Self-sufficient in rasberries and bindweed. Slug pellets can be handy.

I'll have to buy more seeds if they die, I only got 7 in the packet!  I got sick of them last year, I even still have some in the freezer, so bought a different variety this year.

I'll happily have all your unwanted courgettes, we love them. Gently cooked in a frying pan with olive oil, mixed herbs and mushrooms, they taste great. Sometimes add tomatoes, bacon and capers. yum yum. Serve with cous cous or pasta. Probably have that twice a week.

And if you left the courgettes out they would taste much better and be more nutritious.
