Finally they master bedtime
« on: July 09, 2013, 10:21 »
At last  :)  At 19 weeks old and Patsy and Edina, my blue laced dottie babies, have managed to put themselves to bed for the last 2 nights  :D

We've had :

Run round outside cheeping in distress because its dark and we can't find our bed
Have to be lured upstairs by mum with grapes, so we learn to go up there when its getting dark
Manage to make it upstairs on our own, but then cheep in distress
Find we like a torch and cuddle up next to that
Decide we are scared of the torch and refuse to go near it
Camp out just outside the bedroom door
Oh, hang on - if we walk through the bedroom door - well who would have thunk it, here's our bed  ::)

They really are dim these 2

You have too much patience, mine would have been camping out until they got sick of it and went to bed on their own.

We have foxes prowling through each night, so wouldn't want to leave them out in the run or the wire fronted bit of the hutch as temptation  ;)

I seriously have never had chickens that are as loopy as them   ::)  Foggy will be pulling his feathers out trying to get these two in line once they move into the big run

That is true, their security must come first.  My wyandottes were a year old when I got them so I suppose they had grown out of the silly little girl stage.

Tonight, in bed same time as the others instead of staying up late messing about in the run.  When I peeped in to see they were OK, they looked at me in astonishment as if to say 'Where did you think we were'  ::)

They are hopeless  ::)

Take the roof off the run section downstairs and they look totally gobsmacked.  The big gang are running round the garden usually by this stage and they want to join them, but how  ???  Pick them up and sit them on the edge of the run - oh easy!  just jump down.

Getting them back in.  Attract them by rattling the meal worm bag.  Chuck a few in the run - they run laps round their house trying to find a way in  ::)  Pick them up and put them on the edge of the run - oh easy!  Just jump down.

Next time you want to let them out, they have forgotten again

They are very endearing  :)

You should see flying practise   Its like this but with small round chickens and the landings are heavier

Can you film them.   If you don't mind that is.
(How do you put video on?)
