Advice on growing medium
« on: March 13, 2018, 13:18 »
I have discovered a mound at the top of my plot which is  rich in very old leaf mould and some very rotted wood. I could spread it out around the existing beds but to save myself a lot of work I would like to use it as a raised bed 'as is'.  It is sheltered and south facing. Does anyone have any thoughts on this, eg. Is it a suitable medium for any crops, and if so which would enjoy it the most? My soil is light, so anything I wouldn't do well with as a rule?

I was going to say don't plant small or large veg but.... anyway, it may be deficient in nitrogen so wouldn't advise leafy greens. Try growing other veg such as root crops and see how it goes.
I work very hard so don't expect me to think as well.
