pickled gherkins recipe please

Anyone  know a recipe for the very lightly flavoured vinegar for pickled cornichons (gherkins). Can see it's got bits of dill weed in it but can't work out what else.

Tried the same one as for pickled onions but they don't taste right.

Dill weed
Sugar
White vinegar
Coriander seeds (optional)

This makes the "sweet & sour" type gherkins, similar to the kosher ones by Mrs Ellswood (mmmm) :D

I did some last year but were too strong.... like the Dill pickle but says you must keep it chilled?
I have 8 fish shop large jars to fill!!!!

Any other ideas how to pickle them?

I don't keep mine chilled, well I do keep one jar in the fridge, but the rest stay in the cupboard with my other pickles.

Oh gosh, I don't have exact quantities, I just put the gherkins whole or sliced into jars (of about the size you'd buy the ready made pickles in), then cover them in vinegar, add a couple of spoonfuls of fresh dill and some sugar, I leave it about a week then taste, if it's too vinegary I add more sugar (a little at a time, I suppose a dessertspoon full) and then keep going until it's sweet enough.  I normally add about a teaspoonful of coriander seed (and sometimes a few peppercorns, you could add chilli if you like them spicy but I don't).  I do like them quite sweet though!  I'd try one jar first and get the taste right and go from there, I guess it's personal taste but I was brought up on sweet and sour pickles and that's how I like them.  Mine are similar to Mrs Ellswoods, if you can get those, rather than chip shop pickles!
