just a quick question is hawthorn a hardwood the reason is that i have been given some mushrooms that need a hardwood log to grow on and i have plenty of hawthorn logs the right size yours big green  bloke
remember plants can't read books

answer to that is yes ,but beech or birch are better . try to find a soggy bit of iether . dry for a couple days and drill . i love doing that for the birds here  filling em with mashed nuts in fat
