Post by: Notty1975 on April 18, 2018, 19:41
Hi all just finished setting up my auto irrigation system in the greenhouse it’s a GRAVITY FED system i bought the drippers in the picture but find them really a pain to set up so looking for recommendations for fixed flow emitters suitable for a gravity system thanks all

I use the same droppers as you, and find them ok. However, I feed mine directly from the mains. Tried a gravity fed system, with only limited success. I know that in the greenhouse, you should use water at the ambient temperature, and I do when using a can. But using a drip, the flow rate is so small, it doesn't appear to make any difference.

My system is gravity fed, with small pipe connected to the thicker pipe with these drippers https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Aquarium-Plastic-5mm-Dia-3-Way-Cross-Type-Air-Valve-Hose-Connectors-Joint-4pcs/281692982396?epid=1438359867&hash=item419635cc7c:g:4DkAAOSw1QpaTh7Q (https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Aquarium-Plastic-5mm-Dia-3-Way-Cross-Type-Air-Valve-Hose-Connectors-Joint-4pcs/281692982396?epid=1438359867&hash=item419635cc7c:g:4DkAAOSw1QpaTh7Q)and this kind of dripper at the end of the run to adjust pressure https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Aquarium-Tank-Air-Line-Tubing-Adjusting-Plastic-Control-Valve-x-5/351516007424?epid=1338789759&hash=item51d7fc9c00:g:2jEAAOSwP4ZZxIp2

Hi mum. What head of water do you have/need to get these to work? I'm a bit limited as to how high I can raise a (decent sized) water supply and am currently looking at options for an 'automatic' watering system including ceramic cones (I've been impressed by these with my early tomatoes) and solar powered as well as gravity systems.

I have a water butt raised up on wooden blocks about 18ins off the floor.

Thanks mum that's useful info. Sounds similar to the water butt set up I already have.
