feather pecking

We have had to very nasty cases of feather pecking during the autumn, so much so we had no hope for the little ranger. However, was told by breeder to use Stockholm Tar - got it from agricultural supplier very reasonably priced - applied to pecked area not too liberally and this then helped healing and deterred the hens from attacking.
Within 8 weeks Clara was fully healed and feathered and was never separated from the others. Only needed 2 applications throughout the first two. The second case of pecking we were on to straight away and problem very swiftly resolved. They are now the fluffiest and chubbiest little birds!

Hi Freda, I've never used Stockholm tar, but heard both good and bad reports of it. Was yours the spray on one or the thick smeary one? Did you find it gummed up the feathers at all?

Still, sounds like you've sorted the problem out! We had lots of pecking with our first flock of amberlinks, but none with this new lot or the last lot of Babcocks we had in the summer. Touch wood!!!

I would never be whithout stockholm tar, its messy but realy efective, i find it realy good for leg mites too

did wonder if it would work for leg mites/scaly leg - shall remember this!
