Help needed with rescue kitten!!!
« on: May 31, 2012, 20:55 »
Tonight I rescued a very small kitten which had got stuck in the guttering of one of the stable buildings.  I think he may be as young as two weeks.

He weighs 275g, and from 7pm has had two lots of 15ml of kitten milk via syringe.

I really need to know more about caring for such young kittens; my other two rescues were four weeks old, and were practically weaned.

Any advice much appreciated :)

I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days all attack me at once...

Our Mili was hand reared from 2-3 days old.... I fed her every 4 hours, day and night.  As she got a bit bigger I weaned her off the 4 hourly night time feeds, went to 6 hourly.
She had her feed in a bottle that came with the kitten milk powder (Royal Canine rings a bell, or something like that)
I put Mili in a crate, covered with a towel and a hot water bottle inder her (with a very thick towel on top)  In the end I gave up on the hot wter bottle and  made a īnestī in the corner of the box, she seemed to prefer that.
To make her pee and poo I rubbed her nether regions with a damp cotton bud, holding her over the hand basin.
When Mili was about 8 weeks old (had to wait until then because she was small and on the vets advise)  we then gave Mili kitten tinned kitten food.  I mixed it with the kitten milk and fed it at first on my finger then she started to lap straight away.
She is a lovely kitten, who I am sure thinks she is a dog!

Forgot to say, if his eyes are not open to bathe them with boiled cooled water.  Although I did that to Mili and she still got a bad eye infection!

Picture of kitten please?

Despite his small size he really is quite a robust little thing!

When we were given Mili we were given anotehr kitten too, their mother had been killed on the main road.  Right from the start Mili was feisty, she would climb up the crate even when her eyes were tight shut, and what a noise she made!
Sadly the other kitten died, but we knew Mili would make it through.

Your kitty is lovely  :D

He's gorgeous!
Be like a duck. Calm on the surface but always paddling like the dickens underneath.

Noisy little thing he is!

Fortunately he went 5 and half hours overnight sound asleep, then took almost 20ml of milk this morning.

I eventually got him to pee, which is a relief.

I'm off to the vet this morning, as I realised my kitten formula is out of date  :( so I've been feeding diluted cows milk for the past two feeds.

The amount of weight Mili put on each day was unbelievable, the kitten formula milk is good. Donīt know about with you, but here the vet sells it by the sachet, no need to buy the whole box of the feed (although I did over the weeks!)
